Sensei Nakamura and Ohgami from Fukushima branch of Itosu-kai Japan appeared on Japanese official stamp! They wear karate-gi and we can even see Itosu-kai lono on it. We all thought it was some kind of joke, but it’s not!
Japan Post decided to release stamps commemorating a recovery of Minami-Soma city from the attack of Great Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami in 2011. Minami-Soma city was one of the biggest damaged areas from the natural disaster, and it is also just outside of a forbidden zone of exploded nuclear power plants in Fuukushima.
At that time, the city received a lot of donations from Taiwan, Korea, USA and the Republic of Djibouti in Africa. However, a friendship with those countries were built in this opportunity, and Sports’ exchanging programs were especially developed between those last few years.
Sensei Nakamura and Ohogami also visited Republic of Djibouti as a karate instructor in 2018, and a national team coach and students also visited Minami-Soma city from the country. Thus, as we mentioned above, Japan Post decided to release stamps commemorating the recovery and international friendship of the city.
But we are still surprised about two Itosu-kai Sensei appearing on Japanese official stamp!!! It is however great honor for all of Itosu-kai members in the world.
